Mamtaz Begum
Mamtaz Begum is a first-class law graduate and Research Assistant at GenCGov. Her work sits at the critical intersection of gender equality, climate justice, and legal reform, perfectly aligned with GenCGov's mission to transform climate governance through inclusive leadership.
Currently researching gender and climate change in the UN system at the University of Bradford, Mamtaz brings both academic rigour and practical legal expertise to the urgent challenge of building gender-responsive climate governance frameworks. Her research directly addresses the reality that women represent less than 30% of global climate decision-makers, despite over 70% of rural women depending on climate-sensitive livelihoods, a disparity GenCGov works to eliminate through policy advocacy and leadership training.
Mamtaz's diverse legal background uniquely positions her to advance GenCGov's objectives. Her experience spans corporate law at Clarion Solicitors, immigration advocacy at Proctor and Hobbs, employment rights representation with GMB Union, and community legal support at Citizens Advice, demonstrating her commitment to making legal systems more accessible and equitable for marginalized groups. This foundation in translating complex legal frameworks into actionable guidance mirrors GenCGov's approach to integrating gender perspectives into climate policies and supporting laws that promote inclusive climate action.
